Breast lift in Barcelona

Breast lift in Barcelona, in a few lines

It is a plastic surgery procedure that removes excess skin, repositions the glandular tissue and raises the nipple. It is done in an operating theatre and, according to the SECPRE, it usually requires general anaesthesia. The scar is permanent, although it fades over time, and the size of the breast hardly changes unless an implant, the patient's own fat (fat grafting) or a reduction is added. Breast lift, augmentation and reduction: how they differ

Mammoplasty is the general name for operations that reshape the breast, and the SECPRE distinguishes three of them, among others: augmentation, reduction and lift. Augmentation is used to gain size and improve shape, normally with a prosthesis. Reduction removes tissue so that the breast is smaller. The lift is the breast lift (mastopexy): it raises a sagging breast without noticeably changing its size. It is also called a breast lift or mastopexy.

That boundary matters because what is proposed to you depends on it. According to the October 2026 version of the ASPS website, an augmentation is not enough for a breast that sags a lot, which is why it sometimes needs to be accompanied by a lift; and anyone who wants a smaller breast has to think about reduction. Before putting a name to the operation, it is worth knowing what your breast lacks: height, volume or excess weight and skin.

Lift only or combine? Common situations in a breast lift in Barcelona

These typical situations are not cases of specific patients: they are there to show how the decision is reasoned, which in your case is always taken with the examination in front of us.

The breast sags, but the volume is enough for you

If the problem is height and skin, and you are happy with the size you have, what is indicated is a breast lift with nothing added. It is the one that adds the least to the operation, because it includes no implant and no other procedure.

The breast sags and lacks fullness at the top

Here the option is to lift and, in addition, add volume with a prosthesis or with the patient's own fat (fat grafting). The ASPS notes that the lift can often be done at the same time as the augmentation, or may require a separate operation, and that it is the surgeon who guides that decision. Doing everything in one stage means a single anaesthetic and a single recovery; doing it in two means more time overall, but spreads the work out. If the sagging is marked, the second option is sometimes the more prudent one.

The breast is large and also sags

When there is excess volume and also sagging, the usual approach is to consider a reduction, which lifts at the same time. The difference from a breast lift lies in what is done with the glandular tissue: in a breast lift it is repositioned and reshaped, and in a reduction part of it is removed. The ASPS puts it like this: if you want a smaller breast, the lift is combined with a reduction.

The breast already has implants and has dropped

When you already have implants and the breast has descended, it can be lifted and, in the same operation, the prostheses can be replaced with others of a different size or type. There is more information on the page about breast implant exchange.

There are other parts of the body to operate on

A breast lift can also be added to procedures on other areas. The more areas are operated on at the same time, the longer the anaesthetic and the more demanding the recovery, so the surgeon assesses with you whether it is worth combining them or spreading them over time.

What is assessed at your first breast lift consultation in Barcelona

The surgeon examines the breast, measures its size and shape, the quality of the skin and the position of the nipples and areolas, takes photographs and goes through the options and the anaesthesia with you. Three questions give that visit its order: what bothers you most about your breast, what change you would like to see and what you are willing to accept to achieve it, whether that is a longer scar or a bigger operation. If an image helps you explain it, bring it along: it says more than a size. And going to the consultation does not oblige you to have surgery.

The operation and the recovery, in a few lines

According to the SECPRE, a breast lift is done in the operating theatre of a clinic or hospital, with general anaesthesia in most cases, and after 24 or 48 hours you can lead an almost normal life. Recovery of all activities usually takes four to six weeks, and the final result is seen between three and six months. How to organise the weeks

The SECPRE recommends that someone can take you home when you are discharged and, if needed, help you for a couple of days. Ask for help with small children and with anything heavy, and avoid choosing a date right before a long trip or an important event.

How to choose where to be operated on

Choosing a clinic and a surgeon for a breast lift in Barcelona deserves more than looking at a price. There are four checks you can make yourself and that are public.

Speciality: the SECPRE advises going to a specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, and the Ministry of Health publishes the REPS, where you can see which speciality is listed for each professional. Registration: it is checked with the registration number on the Organización Médica Colegial portal. Centre: in Catalonia, authorised healthcare centres are listed in the register of the Departament de Salut. And finally, the paperwork: plan, consent and quote, in writing and in your name.

If a clinic pressures you to decide on the day, proposes a date without having examined you or does not tell you who is going to operate on you, take it as a reason to keep asking questions.

Balmes, the main one

Start, if you like, with Balmes, the main one: it is the aesthetic surgery clinic in Barcelona that we have in Sant Gervasi, at 268 Carrer de Balmes (08006). Its opening hours are from 9:30 to 20:00, Monday to Friday. The FGC stations of Plaça Molina and Sant Gervasi are about a hundred metres away. Aribau, at 192 Carrer d'Aribau (08036), has Provença (FGC) and Diagonal (metro) about five hundred metres away, and is open Monday to Thursday until 19:00 and on Friday until 14:00. Guinardó, at 515 Carrer de Sardenya (08024), is about 250 metres from Alfons X (L4). Madrazo, at 60-66 Carrer dels Madrazo (08006), is 250 to 350 metres from the FGC stations of Sant Gervasi, Plaça Molina and Muntaner. Poblenou, at 141 Avinguda Diagonal (08018), can be reached by line 4 to Poblenou, about 500 metres away. The last three are open on weekdays, from 10:00 to 20:00.

How much does a breast lift cost in Barcelona? What decides the amount and what it covers

The technique and the degree of sagging make a difference, as does whether an implant, the patient's own fat (fat grafting) or a reduction is added, the anaesthesia, the overnight stay and the possible addition of another operation. What it should include

A complete quote separates the medical fees, the operating theatre and the night's stay if there is one, the anaesthesia, the implant when there is one, the bra for afterwards and the follow-up appointments. How to compare two quotes

Before deciding, check in each one whether it includes the anaesthesia and the operating theatre, whether the implant is part of the amount or charged separately and how many follow-up appointments it covers. Two different figures rarely include the same things.
