Breast lift in Alicante

A breast lift (mastopexy) in Alicante is the operation that raises the breast when it is no longer firm and has dropped, whether because of pregnancies, weight loss or the passing of the years. The underlying question is almost always the same: whether lifting is enough or whether you also need an implant to restore volume.

Breast lift in Alicante · Clínica EGOS

This page focuses on that decision: lifting alone, lifting with implants or what the studies describe about your own fat, in one operation or in two, and what to do if you already have implants. It also explains how to plan sun and beach time after surgery, whether social security covers it and what the quote should include. The first consultation takes place at our clinic in Alicante, on Plaza del Alcalde Agatángelo Soler.

What is a breast lift and what can't it do?

A breast lift (mastopexy) is the surgery that raises a sagging breast: it removes the excess skin, repositions the gland and moves the nipple and areola to a higher position. According to the ASPS (consulted in October 2026), it does not noticeably change the volume of the breast or round out its upper part, so the question that sets everything else in order is what you are missing: position, volume or both.

Breast lift in Alicante: lifting alone or adding volume

This is the decision that raises the most doubts, and the one best made with the breast in front of the surgeon. There are several routes and none is better in the abstract: each answers a different situation.

Lifting alone

If what you have lost is mainly height and you are happy with the volume you have left, a breast lift on its own solves what you are asking. The surgeon repositions your own tissue and removes the excess skin, and the breast ends up higher and firmer at the size you already had. It is the route that introduces no material into the body and does not depend on any device that has to be checked over the years.

Lifting and adding an implant

The SECPRE notes that, when the breast has not only dropped but has also lost volume or has little, an implant can also be placed under the breast tissue or under the pectoral muscle. These are two steps within a single operation: the implant fills, above all the upper part, and the lift adjusts the skin and the position of the nipple. It makes sense if, even when you hold the breast in place with your hand, you still lack fullness at the top, or if from the start you want a larger size.

The ASPS reminds us that implants are not considered lifetime devices, that they may need replacing over the years and that you can have an annual check-up with your surgeon. How the volume is chosen and where it is placed is explained on our page about breast augmentation in Alicante.

What studies describe: your own fat

The medical literature describes a third route: the patient's own fat. It is taken from another area of the body by liposuction and grafted into the breast during the same operation. It brings more moderate changes than an implant and requires having some spare fat in one area. A series published in 2020 in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, with 140 women with ptosis or tuberous breasts, evaluated this combination in a single stage, with an average of about 300 millilitres of fat per breast, as an alternative to a breast lift with implants, according to its authors. In that paper it is presented as a route for modest volumes.

One operation or two?

Sometimes doing it in two stages is considered: first the lift and, months later, the implant. A 2020 paper in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery notes that lifting with an implant in a single procedure is a demanding operation and that its safety and effectiveness are still debated when the sagging is grade 2 or 3. For that reason, when the sagging is marked, the surgeon may propose splitting it into two stages even though the process takes longer. It is a decision made with the breast examined, not from a catalogue.

How to prepare for the decision

Before the consultation, look at photos of breasts you like and think about why: the height, the shape, the proportion with the rest of the body. Decide whether there is a volume you do not want to exceed and note down whether you expect to lose weight or have children, because it changes the advice. Showing a photo and saying "like this" or "not like this" is more useful to the surgeon than giving a bra size, which does not mean the same thing across all brands.

If you already have implants: lift, replace or leave them as they are

Having implants does not rule out a breast lift. If you already have them and the breast has dropped, it can be lifted leaving them where they are, or the operation can be used to change their volume or type. The surgeon assesses the condition of the implants, how much skin is left and what you are looking for, and the plan comes from that.

Bring to the consultation the report from the previous operation and the documentation for the implants that you were given. If the question is whether to replace them or not, we have a page on breast implant replacement. The ASPS notes that, over time, some women turn to a lift or to an implant replacement to regain a more youthful shape.

After weight loss or having children: when is a good time

Some consultations come after significant weight loss or after one or more pregnancies, and in both cases timing matters. An ASPS article on its website notes that the breast contains quite a lot of fatty tissue, so losing a lot of weight takes away part of its volume and leaves skin that takes longer to tighten. It is precisely the situation in which the question about how much volume to restore carries the most weight: there is a lack of volume and an excess of skin at the same time.

For that reason the ASPS includes a stable weight among the traits of a good candidate, and the surgeon may advise you to wait if you are still losing weight or if the breast is still changing after you stop breastfeeding. Waiting a few months is usually worthwhile: it allows the operation to be done when what is measured in the consultation is no longer going to move.

The first consultation, the technique and the operation in brief

In the first consultation the surgeon examines the breast, measures the sagging and asks you about your health, your pregnancy plans and what you are looking for. If you are coming from another town in the province, ask when you book how visits and check-ups are organised.

The SECPRE explains that a breast lift is performed in an operating theatre, that it usually requires an overnight stay with discharge the next day and that it is usually carried out under general anaesthesia. The incision depends on the degree of sagging: going around the areola may be enough, or a vertical line and another in the fold under the breast may also be needed, and the scar is permanent even though it fades over the months. The general steps and the incisions, in more detail, are on the breast lift (mastopexy) page.

Recovery: bra, sun and beach

During the first weeks you will wear the support bra your surgeon indicates, without taking it off on your own.

Sun and water

In Alicante the beach, the swimming pool and the sun are part of everyday life, and after a breast lift in Alicante, with a recent scar, you have to plan for it. We ask you to avoid direct sun exposure for at least six months, because ultraviolet radiation can darken scars. To bathe, whether in the sea or in a swimming pool, wait until the wounds are closed and the surgeon gives the go-ahead.

If you have a summer coming up, mention it in the consultation: it may mean the date of the operation is chosen more carefully.

Mammograms after a breast lift

The mammograms that are due at your age continue to be done. Take the report from the operation to the test and say which technique was used and whether you have implants.

Does social security cover a breast lift in Alicante?

The SECPRE is clear: a breast lift for aesthetic purposes falls outside the services covered by Spanish social security. That common portfolio of the national health system is regulated by Royal Decree 1030/2006 in the BOE, which excludes procedures with an aesthetic purpose except when they respond to an accident, an illness or a congenital anomaly.

In practice, if your reason is aesthetic, the quote is private. If you suspect there is a medical cause behind it, the starting point is your family doctor and public healthcare, not a private clinic.

Who will perform your breast lift in Alicante?

At the consultation you are seen by one of the registered plastic surgeons at Clínica EGOS, who explains which option suits you and why, with your breast examined in front of them.

Price of a breast lift in Alicante: what it depends on and what it includes

"How much does it cost?" is the first question from almost every patient, and the honest answer is that it depends on your case. Lifting alone does not cost the same as lifting and adding an implant, nor does a scar around the areola cost the same as an inverted-T one. That is why we do not give a figure before seeing your case: you receive it in writing after the first consultation, once the technique has been defined.

What it depends on

The degree of sagging, the technique chosen, the implant if one is added, the type of anaesthesia, the overnight stay and whether or not the operation is combined with another all weigh in.

What it should include

The ASPS lists what usually makes up the cost of a breast lift: the surgeon's fees, anaesthesia, the operating theatre or centre, medical tests, post-operative garments and medication. In a well-prepared quote those items appear separately, along with the implant and the check-ups when they apply. We give it to you in writing, itemised.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a breast lift in Alicante cost and what does the quote include?

There is no single figure, because the amount changes with the technique, with the implant if one is added, with the anaesthesia and with whether there is an overnight stay. After the first consultation you receive a written quote, with every entry on its own line.

Can social security cover a breast lift in Alicante?

If the reason is aesthetic, no: the SECPRE states that a breast lift done for aesthetic purposes is not part of what Spanish social security covers. If you think there is a medical cause, start with your family doctor.

How many years does the result of a breast lift in Alicante last?

We cannot promise a number of years. The ASPS says the result is long-lasting, but that the breast keeps changing with age and gravity, and that it is kept longer by maintaining your weight and a healthy lifestyle.

Can I ask for implants if the surgeon proposes lifting alone?

You can ask and talk it over in the consultation. If the volume is enough for you, the surgeon will explain why they do not see the implant as necessary; and if you want a larger size, they will tell you which implant would fit and what changes: more time in the operating theatre and a material that is checked over the years.

When can I bathe at the beach or in the pool after surgery?

When the wounds are closed and the surgeon gives the go-ahead, which is a decision made case by case. For direct sun we ask you to wait at least six months, because it can darken scars.

What happens to my implants if I have a breast lift?

If you have them, they can be left where they are and the breast lifted around them, or the operation can be used to change their size or type. The examination decides, and it is worth bringing the report from the previous operation.
