Abdominoplasty in Madrid
Abdominoplasty in Madrid is the operation that removes the excess skin and fat from the abdomen and, when needed, repositions the muscles of the abdominal wall. It is mostly considered after pregnancies or after a large weight loss. This page focuses on how to decide between mini, full or with liposuction and on how long it is advisable to wait after childbirth; the technique in general is on our abdominoplasty page.

What is abdominoplasty and what does it correct?
It consists of removing excess skin and fat from the abdomen and, as a rule, repairing muscles that have weakened or separated; it is not a substitute for losing weight. The full explanation, with the operation and recovery, is on our abdominoplasty in Málaga page.
After childbirth or after losing weight: how long to wait
According to an article from June 2026, the ASPS reports the view of surgeons who advise waiting at least six months after giving birth, and if possible up to a year, longer if you are breastfeeding, and until your weight has stabilised. One of them also recommends waiting until the family is complete. It is not a written rule but the criterion of those surgeons; the consultation is there to apply it to your case.
The SECPRE adds another reason for anyone planning to have more children: the muscles that are tightened in the operation can slacken again. And after losing weight, the prudent course is to have the operation at a stable weight, because according to the ASPS large swings can reduce the result. If there is also diastasis, that is, the rectus muscles separated along the midline, it is assessed at the consultation and affects which type of abdominoplasty suits you.
Mini, full or with liposuction: how it is decided
There is no version that is better in the abstract. Each one answers a different situation, and it is the surgeon who proposes it after examining you.
Mini abdominoplasty
According to the SECPRE, it can be enough when the build-up is only below the navel. It uses a much smaller incision, just above the pubic area, and there is no need to cut around the navel. It usually lasts between one and two hours and requires a shorter stay in the clinic.
Full abdominoplasty
This is the one that treats the whole abdomen. According to the SECPRE, it involves a long incision just above the pubic area, from one hip to the other, and another around the navel; the skin is separated up to the ribs, the muscles are tightened and the excess skin is removed. It lasts between two and four hours. The ASPS notes that the shape and length of the incision depend on how much skin there is to remove.
With liposuction
According to the SECPRE, liposuction of the hips can be added to the full or the mini version so that the figure looks more harmonious, and in some cases liposuction of the abdomen alone is enough. Which combination is right for you depends on how much skin there is, how much fat and what state the muscle wall is in.
Three questions to decide
Where what bothers you is: whether it is mainly skin, mainly fat or also the muscle wall. How much skin is left over above and below the navel. And how much scarring you accept in exchange for the new shape. With those three answers, the consultation compares which technique gives the most result with the least surgery.
Your first consultation: the caesarean and other scars
The surgeon examines you, goes over your history and explains the options; going does not oblige you to have surgery. Tell them how many pregnancies you have had, whether there were caesareans and how much your weight has changed, and bring the reports of any previous abdominal operations. According to the ASPS, if you had a caesarean the earlier scar may be incorporated into the new one, and the SECPRE warns that other scars may argue against the operation or make them change position.
The operation and the first weeks, in brief
At EGOS we operate under general anaesthesia and the procedure lasts about three hours. Afterwards a compression garment is worn for four to eight weeks and you go back to work, as a rule, after two or three weeks. We ask you not to do physical effort, exercise or sport during the first three months, and the specific timescales are set by the surgeon at each check-up.

Frequently asked questions
How much does abdominoplasty cost in Madrid and what does the quote include?
It depends on whether it is mini, full or with liposuction, on the anaesthesia, the operating theatre and the days of stay. After the consultation you receive a written quote, with medical team, theatre, anaesthesia, stay, girdle and check-ups listed separately.
Mini abdominoplasty, full or with liposuction: which is right for me?
According to the SECPRE, the mini can be enough if the build-up is only below the navel; if there is skin and fat across the whole abdomen the full version is considered, and liposuction can be added to either. The surgeon decides after examining you.
What is the best age to have the operation?
There is no fixed age. The ASPS stresses health, stable weight and realistic expectations, and the SECPRE mentions both women with several pregnancies and older people who have lost elasticity. The moment matters more than the calendar.
Does Social Security cover abdominoplasty?
As a general rule, no. The SECPRE leaves it out of Social Security benefits, except in disabling cases, and Royal Decree 1030/2006, which sets the benefits of the public system, leaves out what only seeks to improve appearance and does not respond to an illness, an accident or a congenital malformation.
Can I have the operation soon after giving birth or while breastfeeding?
The prudent thing is to wait. In a June 2026 article, the ASPS reports the view of surgeons who advise at least six months after giving birth, longer if breastfeeding, and until your weight has stabilised. Each case is assessed at the consultation.
Can I have the operation if I already have a caesarean or another scar on my abdomen?
It depends on which it is. If there was a caesarean, the ASPS explains that the earlier scar can be incorporated into the new one; the SECPRE warns that other scars may argue against the operation or change position. Bring the reports of your operations to the consultation.
What is the first consultation in Madrid like and at which clinic will I be seen?
