Breast augmentation in Málaga

Breast augmentation in Málaga starts long before the operating theatre: with an informed decision about the implant, the surgeon and where you have your surgery. If you are looking for a breast operation in Málaga, this page explains how we approach it at Clínica EGOS, what the surgeon will explain to you and what is worth checking before you decide.

Breast augmentation in Málaga · Clínica EGOS

The plastic surgery clinic in Málaga is at calle Rachmaninov, 5, and also welcomes people coming from the Costa del Sol and the rest of the province. Here is what is specific to this location, with the medical sources cited, so that your first consultation is a conversation with your questions already prepared.

Breast augmentation in Málaga: three decisions, not one

When people talk about a breast operation, they tend to think of a single figure, the volume. In reality, the surgeon makes three decisions with you. The first is the approach: implants or your own fat. The second is the implant itself: its shape, its width and its projection. The third is placement: where it sits and where it is inserted. The general explanation of the treatment is on our breast augmentation page.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) sums up what this surgery can achieve: more fullness and projection, and restoring volume lost after a pregnancy or weight loss. On its own, it does not correct a very droopy breast; in that case, or if the breasts are tuberous, see our pages on mastopexy and tuberous breasts.

None of the three decisions is made from a catalogue, which is why you will not find sizes or figures here. Nor can anyone promise you perfect symmetry or a result identical to a photograph; an honest surgeon will tell you which part of what you are looking for is achievable with your anatomy and which part is not.

The reference surgeon for breast augmentation in Málaga

Who they are

The Clínica EGOS plastic surgery team is led by Dr. Santiago Elvira i Barberà, plastic surgeon (registration no. 49756), co-founder of the clinic. He is the reference surgeon for this page, and signs and reviews this content.

Dr. Gonzalo Magide also practises in Málaga. His specialty is plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery; he completed his residency through the MIR route and is a member of SECPRE and SOCIPER. His work focuses on breast surgery, facial surgery and body contouring.

What you can check

The MIR route is the official system through which specialist doctors are trained in Spain, and SECPRE membership can be verified publicly with the society itself. Even so, do not rely on what a website says, ours included; ask for the medical registration number of the surgeon who would see you and confirm it with the medical association, and check their specialty in the State Register of Healthcare Professionals (Registro Estatal de Profesionales Sanitarios); if they do not appear there, ask them to show their specialist qualification, as SECPRE advises.

What to ask them

Ask who would operate on you, who would carry out your check-ups, what they would do if the result did not match the plan and how you would contact them or the clinic after the operation. A surgeon who is confident in their plan answers all of this without discomfort. If other surgeons also see patients in Málaga, we will tell you when we give you your appointment.

First visit to the Málaga clinic: talk, examine, plan

The clinic is at calle Rachmaninov, 5 (29002 Málaga). Call +34 682 14 15 14; we are available from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 20:00.

The visit is divided into three stages. First, you talk about your reasons and what you expect, and your health is reviewed: medical history, allergies, medication and any cases of breast cancer in the family. Then comes the examination: according to the ASPS, the surgeon measures the breasts, assesses the skin, checks where the nipple and areola sit and takes photographs. Finally, the planning: the surgeon explains what suits you and what they advise against.

Bring any medical reports you already have, a list of the medication you take daily and any recent imaging tests, if you have them. If it helps to think with another voice, bring someone with you, and write down the answers: a lot is said in a single visit.

You leave with the options clear and under no obligation to decide that day.

From the first day to aftercare: four steps

This is how we organise the process at Clínica EGOS.

Assessment

We study your case and listen to your goals in order to design a plan tailored to you.

Plan

We explain the technique, what to expect and the quote. Ask for it in writing so that you can read it calmly and with whoever you choose.

Procedure

It is carried out by a surgeon from the medical team, in the operating theatre and under anaesthesia.

Aftercare

We are with you throughout the postoperative period, with the check-ups the surgeon sets, until you have fully recovered.

What should the surgeon explain before you sign?

Signing a consent form is not a formality: Law 41/2002 requires that you first receive specific information. Before asking for your signature, the doctor must inform you of the relevant consequences of the procedure, of the risks linked to your personal or professional circumstances, of the probable risks in this type of surgery and of the contraindications (art. 10). And this information must be given to you in a way you can understand (art. 4).

In practical terms: if, when you leave the consultation, you do not know what is going to be done to you, why and with what consequences for your daily life, you are not yet in a position to sign. And if you sign and then change your mind, article 8 allows you to withdraw your consent in writing at any time.

Implants: shape, base and projection

Besides volume, an implant is described by three measurements. The shape: round, the same in every direction, or anatomical, teardrop-shaped with more volume at the bottom. The base: how wide it is, which should respect the width of your chest. And the projection: how far it sticks out forwards.

Two breasts with the same volume can look very different depending on those three measurements. That is why the surgeon starts from your measurements and the photographs you bring, not from a figure in cubic centimetres. If one breast is slightly larger than the other, the plan can take that into account.

Ask also for the implant documentation (the card and the manufacturer's); without it, replacing the implant years later is much harder.

Where the implant goes and where it is inserted

There are two basic placements and an intermediate one. Behind the mammary gland, the implant is covered by the gland and the skin; behind the pectoral muscle, it is also covered by the muscle; and in the dual plane, the muscle covers only the upper part. Each one changes the recovery and the appearance, and which is suitable depends on the thickness of your tissue.

There are three entry routes: the crease under the breast, the edge of the areola and the armpit. The scar ends up in a different place depending on the route, and the ASPS warns that incision lines can take months, even a couple of years, to fade.

After becoming a mother: when to have surgery

It is one of the most common reasons: the breast is no longer what it was after one or several pregnancies and breastfeeding. The ASPS expressly cites loss of shape and volume after pregnancy, and at the same time excludes as candidates anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.

The practical consequence is to wait until the breastfeeding period has passed and the breast has settled before having surgery. And if you are planning to have more children, say so: the operation can be planned differently or postponed.

Augmentation with your own fat

There is the alternative of moving fat from another part of the body to the breast, which is mainly suited to moderate changes.

Before your operation: tests and preparation

SECPRE recommends a breast imaging test before surgery. The team may also ask you to have blood tests, adjust your medication and give up smoking and some medication that favours bleeding. Make a list of everything you take, including supplements and herbal products, and bring it to the consultation. With implants, mammograms can still be done: always say that you have them.

The operation and the first days

It takes place in the operating theatre and under anaesthesia; the type, and whether you stay a night at the centre, are decided by the medical team. You will need someone to take you, collect you and stay with you the first night. For the first few days you wear a support bra, at night too if your surgeon says so, and the swelling takes a few weeks to go down. Guidance on dressings, work and exercise is that of whoever operated on you.

If you are coming from the province: your breast augmentation in Málaga with travel

From the Costa del Sol (Marbella, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Estepona) or from the interior (Ronda, Antequera), what matters is the logistics more than the journey. Think about the day of the procedure (who comes with you and where you sleep that night), the first check-up the following week and the visits during the first year.

Find out early how many check-ups you will have, with whom, and how you can contact the clinic if something worries you between appointments. And keep the report of the operation and the implant paperwork: it is what any other centre will ask you for.

What does the quote for a breast operation in Málaga include?

We do not give a figure before examining you: it varies according to the technique, the implant and the plan agreed. What you should be able to see is a written, itemised quote: the team's fees, operating theatre and anaesthesia, the implant, check-ups and later materials. Also look at what is missing and at what is promised without an examination.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book an appointment for breast augmentation in Málaga?

Call +34 682 14 15 14 or fill in the form on this page. The first assessment is a conversation with the surgeon and does not commit you to surgery; you leave with the options explained and as much time as you need to think them over.

How much does a breast operation cost in Málaga?

Before examining you there is no figure, because it varies with the technique and the implant. Afterwards you receive a written quote, which you can compare item by item with any other.

Who is the reference surgeon for this page?

Dr. Santiago Elvira i Barberà, plastic surgeon (registration no. 49756), co-founder of Clínica EGOS, who signs and reviews this content. Dr. Gonzalo Magide, a plastic surgery specialist whose work includes breast surgery, also practises in Málaga. Before you decide anything, we give you in writing the medical registration number of the surgeon who would see you and the centre where the procedure would take place.

Can I ask for a copy of my medical record?

Yes. Law 41/2002 (art. 18) recognises your right to access your medical record and to obtain a copy. Ask for it at the end of the process, together with the report of the operation and the details of the implant.

How long should I wait after I stop breastfeeding before having the operation?

There is no general figure. The ASPS does not consider anyone who is breastfeeding a candidate, and the surgeon decides at the examination when the breast has settled enough.

Can a tuberous breast be operated on?

Yes, with a specific plan, because the implant alone may not be enough. The surgeon assesses the shape of the base, the position of the nipple and the difference between the two breasts. We have a page dedicated to tuberous breasts.

What if I am not convinced by what the surgeon proposes?

Ask for a second opinion. It is reasonable and offends nobody. Take the quote and the notes from the first visit so that the other surgeon starts from the same information.

What should I do if I have a question after the operation?

Call the clinic. It is better to ask too much than to wait for the next check-up, and nobody will think you are bothering them. Write down what you notice, since when and what changes it, so that you can explain it precisely.
