Otoplasty in Zaragoza, or ear surgery, brings an ear that sticks out closer to the head or evens out an ear that does not match its pair. At Clínica EGOS it is offered only to adults, and this page is written for the adult who has been thinking about it for a while and wants to know what is corrected, how the operation goes and what the quote includes.

The Zaragoza clinic is at Escoriaza y Fabro, 7.
It is the surgery that repositions, reshapes or reduces the ears, whether because they stick out, because they are too big or because a previous operation did not convince you. The page on otoplasty in Madrid explains in more detail what can be corrected.
Here otoplasty is for adults: only people over eighteen are operated on. The decision is yours, and the first consultation does not commit you to anything.
The surgeon examines your ears, asks you what bothers you most about them and explains which technique is right for you and what result you can expect. We see patients at the Escoriaza y Fabro clinic, and the page on otoplasty in Barcelona describes in more detail what that first visit is like.
It is done under local anaesthesia, to which the surgeon may add sedation; it takes about an hour and you go home the same day. The incision is made on the back of the ear, next to the fold with the head; the scar stays hidden and becomes barely visible over the years. Through it the cartilage is worked until the ear has the shape and position sought.
For the first few days you wear a compression bandage and, after that, an elastic band that is worn day and night for one or two weeks and later only to sleep. In the first month you also avoid anything that rubs or presses on the ears, such as contact sport or headphones. The detail, phase by phase, is on the page on otoplasty in Madrid.
The correction is designed to last: the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) speaks of ears that end up set closer to the head, with the scars hidden behind them or in their own folds. But no surgery stops the passage of time, and ears, like the rest of the body, keep changing over the years. That is why it is wise to be wary of anyone who promises you an exact look for ever.
Part of the result depends on you: the band is worn for as long as the surgeon says, because it keeps the ear in place while it heals.
Public healthcare covers what its common portfolio of services includes, and, according to Royal Decree 1030/2006, which regulates it, operations with a cosmetic purpose are left out. An otoplasty to improve the look of ears that stick out therefore falls into that group.
The case changes if there is a malformation or the after-effect of an injury: then it is a medical matter and the Aragón health service assesses it. That decision does not depend on us and we cannot anticipate it; if it is your case, the first step is to tell your family doctor.
Registered plastic surgeons at Clínica EGOS see you. At the first consultation you meet the person who will assess your ears, and the same medical team accompanies the operation and the check-ups.
Before you book a date, we tell you in writing who will operate on you, with their registration number with the medical association, and at which centre, with its health registration number.
These are details that can be checked: registration is verified with the medical association (colegio de médicos), and the centre through its health registration.
A figure given without seeing your ears would not be reliable, so the quote comes in writing after your first consultation, never before. It is decided by what the surgeon finds when examining you, as well as by the anaesthesia and the centre. When you receive it, check that it includes the assessment, the surgical team, the operating theatre, the bandage and the check-ups, and that it is given to you itemised.
If you come from Huesca, Teruel, Calatayud or anywhere else in Aragón, ask when you book how many visits there will be and which of them are dealt with at the Zaragoza clinic. And think ahead about who will take you home on the day of the operation.

There is no figure without having seen the ears. It comes in writing and itemised after the consultation; to compare it with another, make sure they include the same things.
Not when it is for cosmetic reasons: Royal Decree 1030/2006 leaves those operations out of the common portfolio. If there is a malformation or the after-effect of an injury, the Aragón health service assesses it, and that decision is not ours.
Not during the operation, because it is done under local anaesthesia. Afterwards there may be discomfort under the bandage, which is controlled with the medication the surgeon prescribes.
It is designed to last, although age also leaves its mark on the ears. Wearing the band for the time indicated helps keep the correction, and no one can guarantee you that their appearance will not change over the years.
One of the registered plastic surgeons who work at Clínica EGOS will operate on you. Before you book a date, we tell you in writing who will operate on you, with their registration number with the medical association, and at which centre, with its health registration number.
You tell us what bothers you about your ears, the surgeon examines them and tells you which technique suits you and what result you can expect. Then you receive the quote in writing, with no obligation to have the operation.
When you book, they explain how many times you will have to come and which check-ups are dealt with in Zaragoza, so you can organise your travel.
