Otoplasty in Valencia is the surgery that brings protruding ears closer to the head, reduces ears that are large or evens out ears that do not match each other. At Clínica EGOS it is intended for adults.

This page focuses on the first thing anyone coming for a consultation wants to know: what type of ear you have and what can be done about it. It then summarises the operation, the recovery and the quote. The assessment takes place at our clinic in Valencia, on Gran Via del Marqués del Túria.
Otoplasty improves the shape, position and proportion of the ear. According to the ASPS on its website in October 2026, it can treat ears that protrude to varying degrees, one or both, ears that are too large (macrotia) and an adult's dissatisfaction with a previous ear operation. The SECPRE adds other shapes: the constricted ear, the cup ear and elongated or torn earlobes.
Four words are enough to follow the consultation. The helix is the rim of the ear. The antihelix is the inner fold, just inside that rim, which carries the ear back. The concha is the deepest hollow, the one around the entrance to the ear canal. And the lobe is the soft lower part, with no cartilage.
These are what are commonly called bat ears, and the SECPRE notes that it is the most frequently performed ear surgery. According to a 2022 article in BMC Surgery, they affect around 5 % of the Caucasian population. The ASPS points out that these ears are not associated with hearing loss, so the reason for having surgery is aesthetic. They are usually due to a poorly defined antihelix, a concha that is too deep or both, and what is done in the operating theatre depends on which it is.
When the ear is large, the operation can reduce it. When one ear differs from its pair, it aims to balance them: the difference may lie in the size, in the height at which it sits or in the fold of the cartilage. It is possible to operate on just the ear that protrudes; sometimes both are operated on to balance them. The examination decides.
A very long or torn lobe, or one with a shape you do not like, is assessed separately, because it is not corrected with the same gesture as the cartilage in the rest of the ear. The same goes for the constricted or cup ear. Which of these you have and what can be done is told by the examination, not by a photo.
Had a previous otoplasty that did not satisfy you? Bring the report from that surgery and any before photos you have kept: they help us understand what was done and what can be assessed now.
At Clínica EGOS, otoplasty is surgery for adults, and the decision is yours. The ASPS adds that it should be made for yourself, not to please other people. The consultation and the plan, in more detail, are in otoplasty in Madrid.
According to the ASPS, the correction of prominent ears creates or accentuates the fold of the antihelix and reduces the cartilage of the concha when it is excessive. The incisions are almost always made behind the ear, and internal stitches hold the cartilage in its new shape. A systematic review published in 2026 in JPRAS Open counts more than 200 methods described for the prominent ear and concludes that no single technique has been shown to be the best: which one suits you is decided by the surgeon according to your ear.
It is done under local anaesthesia, sometimes with light sedation, and lasts around an hour; it can take longer if the case is complex. You go home the same day.
For the first two or three days you wear a compression bandage around your head. Then you switch to an elastic band that you do not take off for one or two weeks and, after that, wear only to sleep for a few more weeks. The ASPS insists that the bandages must stay intact and not be removed for any reason, because they hold the ear in its new position while it heals. Many people get back to their routine after a week. You can read the stages in more detail in otoplasty in Madrid.
The scar is hidden behind the ear, in the groove where it joins the head, and becomes less noticeable over time. The correction is lasting, and the ASPS describes it as almost immediate once the bandages are removed. The aim is an improvement, not perfection: it is best not to expect exact symmetry.
Three pieces of public information help you decide before booking. The first is the surgeon's specialty, which appears in the REPS, the register of professionals of the Ministry of Health. The second is their registration with the medical association, which is verified with their registration number at the Organización Médica Colegial. The third is the centre: in the Comunitat Valenciana, authorised healthcare centres are listed in the regional register.
The assessment is carried out by registered plastic surgeons at Clínica EGOS, who examine your ears and tell you which technique they recommend and why.
Before you book a date, we tell you in writing who will operate on you, with their registration number with the medical association, and at which centre, with its health registration number.

The amount depends on the number of ears, the technique, the anaesthesia and whether it is a first surgery or a redo of a previous one. That is why we do not give any figure before examining you: it comes in writing after the first assessment.
The ASPS lists the items that make up the cost of an otoplasty: surgeon's fees, surgical facility, anaesthesia, medication, post-operative garments and medical tests. Ask for them to be itemised and compare them item by item. We give it to you in writing, itemised.
At the first assessment we look at your ears, talk about what you would like to change and what is possible, and you decide at your own pace. It does not oblige you to have surgery. You can call +34 628 02 95 85 or use the form on this page.

It varies with the number of ears, the technique and the anaesthesia. After the first visit we give you a quote with each item on a separate line.
At Clínica EGOS, otoplasty is for adults. The ASPS sets no upper age limit: it asks that you are healthy, do not smoke and are clear about what you want.
After a week, people usually return to their routine. Sports and any activity with a risk of knocking the ears are put off for at least a month; the surgeon will specify.
With local anaesthesia you feel no pain during the procedure. Afterwards there is some discomfort, which is eased with the medication you are given.
As soon as the bandages are removed, according to the ASPS. The correction is lasting, although over the years the ear may change, like the rest of the body.
You talk about what you want and about your health, the surgeon examines your ears, takes photographs and discusses the options with you. It does not commit you to having surgery.
