What is Lobuloplasty?

Lobuloplasty, also known as ear surgery, is a minor surgical procedure aimed at repairing and correcting the earlobe, often due to tears, excessive stretching, or deformities caused by prolonged use of heavy earrings or expanders. This quick, minimally invasive procedure is performed under local anesthesia, leaving no visible scars and providing a smooth recovery.

How is the lobuloplasty procedure performed?

This procedure is typically performed from the age of 4, once the ears are fully developed and the patient has reached an age where social sensitivity is present. The procedure is ambulatory and straightforward, using local anesthesia. The affected area is carefully opened, and then stitched with two or three sutures to close the hole created by the earring. The area is covered to prevent infections. After about one or two weeks, the stitches are removed. If the patient desires, a new hole for earrings can be made after an additional two weeks, but it should be positioned away from the previous tear.

Who is a good candidate for lobuloplasty?

The ideal candidate for lobuloplasty is someone seeking to enhance both their physical appearance and mental well-being through a carefully tailored procedure. This surgery is specifically designed for those who wish to correct or improve the appearance of their earlobes, whether for aesthetic reasons or to boost self-confidence.

Preoperative tests for lobuloplasty

Preparing for lobuloplasty is simple and quick. Before the surgery, it’s recommended to follow these steps:

  • Free Consultation: Discuss expectations with the specialist and review your medical history.
  • Medical Evaluation: Perform blood tests and coagulation assessments to ensure suitability for surgery.
  • Postoperative Plan: Receive a personalized recovery plan.
  • Open Communication: Address any questions or concerns with the medical team to reduce anxiety before the procedure.

Postoperative care for Lobuloplasty

During the first month after lobuloplasty, special care must be taken to protect the scar, including temporarily using clip-on earrings. After this period, a new hole may be made, but care must be taken to avoid the existing scar. It’s essential to avoid direct sunlight during the recovery process to maintain the scar’s integrity.

My approach to lobuloplasty is to restore harmony to my patients’ ears. We know that wearing heavy earrings or simply the passage of time can alter the shape of the earlobe, but my goal is for the ears to regain a youthful and balanced appearance after the procedure. It’s a surgery I perform with great precision to ensure the results are not only aesthetically pleasing but also natural and long-lasting.

When a patient comes in worried about the appearance of her torn or enlarged earlobes, the first thing I do is reassure her. Lobuloplasty is a simple procedure, but it requires a high level of skill to ensure an almost invisible scar. My goal is always for my patients to be able to wear their favorite earrings again with complete confidence, feeling more secure in themselves.

It’s a procedure I approach with the intention of improving the patient’s overall image, maintaining a perfect balance between aesthetics and function.
