Trajectory

Dr. Paloma Malagón is a board-certified plastic surgeon, certified by the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (FEBOPRAS), and a consultant in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Barcelona. She has over 10 years of clinical experience and internationally recognized subspecialization in microsurgery, supermicrosurgery, lymphedema surgery, and breast reconstruction.

Training and research

She holds a degree in Medicine from the University of Castilla-La Mancha and is a specialist in Plastic Surgery trained at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital. She has a PhD in Microsurgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​with a pioneering thesis on the use of indocyanine green angiography (ICG) to optimize DIEP flap perfusion and reduce fat necrosis in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction, which was awarded the UAB Special Doctoral Prize.

International training

He has completed international fellowships at world-renowned centers for supermicrosurgery and lymphedema: the National Centre for Global Health and Medicine in Tokyo, with Prof. Takumi Yamamoto, and Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, with Prof. Zhegang Zhou. He was a Visiting Professor at the latter center during 2025.

Teaching and scientific outreach

She is the director and professor of the International Course on Ultrasound Applied to Reconstructive Microsurgery at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital and of the International Ultrasound Workshop for Microsurgeons. An associate professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the UAB since 2015, she also teaches postgraduate courses in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery and Surgical Anatomy Applied to Limb Reconstruction.

Scientific production

Author of more than 20 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as Aesthetic Surgery Journal, Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, and Microsurgery. Regular reviewer for specialized international journals and Associate Editor of Iberoamerican Plastic Surgery (IBAM) since 2025.
